In celebration of its first year of operation and in association with
its member contractors, thecontractorsside.com, announces its “Spring
Thing,” by conducting an Ebay auction of “Mommie Hammers,” proceeds to go to
The National Association of Breast Cancer Awareness. The donations have been
designated for mammograms for women who cannot afford them.
thecontractorsside.com believes the best solution for the
problem of breast cancer is early detection.
Contractors are asking me why they should get involved in this effort.
Here’s why:
thecontractorsside.com is a site that supports contractors, and
we know that contractors are held in fairly low regard by the public at large.
This effort will get our cause and our names out in front of the public like
nothing else can.
We are thought to be selfish and interested only in making money which,
of course, is not true. Contractors care, and this is just one way we can show
it.
When we were brainstorming to find exactly what we wanted to do as our
outreach program, it occurred to us that we should target a big problem, one
that would let the public out there know that our members indeed shared broad
concern in this country, the topic of breast cancer came as naturally as
breathing, but we didn’t want to take a “normal” path.
Contractors, by the very nature of our work, solve problems daily, and
in nearly every case, we want to stop a problem before it happens. Most contractors
are not wealthy, we’re working stiffs, plying our trade. Affording a
discretionary expense like mammograms is not a high priority until the disease
comes close, and it always does.
This venture is just the first, but it is important for us to show who
we really are. Other groups have a higher profile because they get involved.
It’s time for us to show we’re involved, too.
Doing this will benefit the contractors’ cause like nothing else.
